Regenerative Turbine Pump Tuesday
Each week, we want to highlight one of the many applications that you can find a regenerative turbine pump.

MTH Regenerative Turbine Pump Optional Materials

Selecting the right pump is critical to ensuring operational efficiency, safety, and longevity. At MTH, we understand the importance of matching your pump’s construction to the specific demands of your process fluids. This is why we offer a variety of regenerative turbine pump configurations and material options tailored to meet your needs. Our full-time application engineering staff is always ready to assist you in making the optimal selection.

Materials of Construction for Regenerative Turbine Pumps

Close Coupled Pumps:

These include most T Series, E Series, P Series, and some M Series Pumps
  1. Bronze Fitted: Ideal for non-corrosive or mildly corrosive fluids. Bronze offers excellent resistance to water, sea water, and certain chemicals, making it a versatile choice.
  2. All Iron: Suited for applications involving non-corrosive fluids. Iron provides durability and strength, suitable for heavy-duty operations.
  3. All Bronze: Perfect for applications requiring higher corrosion resistance than iron. All bronze pumps are often used in marine applications and for pumping sea water or other saline solutions.
  4. Stainless Steel: The go-to material for highly corrosive environments. Stainless steel pumps are used for handling aggressive chemicals, high-temperature fluids, and hygienic applications in pharmaceutical industries.

Flex Coupled Pumps:

These include most 100 and 200 Series Pumps as well as multi-state M and L Series Pumps
  1. Bronze Fitted: Versatile for a wide range of chemical solutions, providing a balance of corrosion resistance and cost-effectiveness.
  2. All Iron: Best for non-corrosive fluids where durability is key.
  3. Bronze Ring: Adds an extra layer of corrosion resistance, suitable for slightly more aggressive fluids than what all iron can handle.
  4. All Bronze: Ensures superior resistance to corrosion, ideal for sea water and other corrosive fluids.
  5. Stainless Steel: The ultimate choice for corrosive and high-purity applications. Stainless steel’s robustness makes it suitable for the most challenging chemical processing needs.
Standard Seal & O Ring Kits are available

Elastomer Options

Elastomers are crucial for sealing and ensuring compatibility with the pumped fluids. MTH offers several options:

  • Buna (Nitrile): Commonly used for water, oils, and some solvents. It is not suitable for strong acids or ozone-rich environments.
  • EPR (EPDM): Excellent for handling hot water, steam, and certain chemicals. It is resistant to weather, ozone, and aging.
  • Viton: Known for its superior resistance to high temperatures and a broad range of chemicals, including acids and alkalis.
  • Exotic Materials: Available for specialized applications requiring unique chemical resistance and durability.

Mechanical Seals

The choice of mechanical seals plays an important role in the performance and reliability of your pump. We offer:

  • Carbon vs. Ceramic: Suitable for general-purpose applications, providing a good balance of cost and performance.
  • Ni-resist: Ideal for moderately abrasive fluids and applications requiring good thermal conductivity.
  • Silicon Carbide Seal Seats: Perfect for handling abrasive and corrosive fluids due to their high hardness and excellent chemical resistance.
  • GLSC (Graphite Loaded Silicone Carbide): Provides superior performance in extremely harsh environments, combining the strength of silicone carbide with the lubrication properties of graphite.

Selecting the Right Materials for Your Application

When choosing the materials for your regenerative turbine pump, consider the following:

  1. Fluid Characteristics: Determine the chemical composition, temperature, viscosity, and abrasiveness of the fluid to be pumped.
  2. Corrosion Resistance: Match the pump materials to the fluid’s corrosiveness to prevent premature failure and ensure longevity.
  3. Operating Environment: Consider the overall operating conditions, including pressure, temperature, and exposure to external elements.
  4. Regulatory Requirements: For industries like food and pharmaceuticals, ensure that the materials meet necessary hygiene and safety standards.

Choosing the right pump configuration and materials can significantly impact the efficiency and lifespan of your chemical processing equipment. At MTH, we are committed to helping you find the perfect solution tailored to your specific needs. Our extensive range of materials and configurations ensures that we have the right pump for any application.
