Free Floating Balanced Impellers of Regenerative Turbine Pumps

In most conventional pump designs, the impeller is typically secured using a set screw, bolt, or by threading it directly onto the shaft. Some manufacturers even employ a press fit, which can make disassembly and rebuilding almost impossible. These fixed impeller designs often lead to issues with axial thrust and overall fit within the pump, potentially reducing efficiency and increasing wear and tear over time.

MTH Pumps takes a different approach by utilizing a free-floating impeller positioned between the casing walls and the motor bracket. This innovative design allows the impeller to self-adjust, accommodating shifts in pressure and temperature during operation. As the pump operates and experiences sudden changes in fluid pressure or temperature, the free-floating impeller can move slightly to maintain optimal positioning and alignment.

This self-adjusting feature of the free-floating impeller provides several advantages. Firstly, it minimizes axial thrust issues, which can otherwise lead to premature bearing wear and failure. Secondly, the improved fit and alignment of the impeller reduce mechanical stress on the pump components, enhancing overall durability and efficiency. Additionally, the self-adjusting nature of the impeller helps maintain consistent pump performance even under varying operating conditions, ensuring reliable and efficient fluid handling.
